children with
hearing loss

Why is early intervention important?

We all start to develop speech and language from the moment we are born. Hence early detection of hearing loss is important in helping your child achieve the best possible speech, language and social skills especially during the crucial early years. Environmental sounds and speech also contributes to the development of the brain’s auditory centres. These auditory portions are best developed when a child is young as it helps development of complex speech such as vocabulary.

The best outcomes for hearing intervention are at six months of age or younger, hence in Malaysia newborn hearing screening has been increasingly applied in all hospitals to ensure all children with hearing loss are identified and treated at an early age.
