What to expect during my first tinnitus visit?

During your first visit to the audiologist, a full case history, audiological evaluation and tinnitus screening will be done to assess if you will should require further treatment. The audiology evaluation may consist of a battery of tests including:

  • Pure tone audiometry
  • Identifying minimum tinnitus masking levels
  • Tinnitus pitch and loudness matching
  • Distorted potential otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE)
  • Remember to schedule adequate time for a more comprehensive evaluation.

    In the event where the audiologist discovers that you suffer from any of the following:

  • Sudden hearing loss
  • Physical trauma
  • Objective tinnitus
  • Injury or pain to head and neck
  • Ear infection
  • Dizziness/vertigo
  • You may be referred to the an otorhinolaryngologist for medical care before the tinnitus treatment can begin.
